How overtime is calculated
Overtime is paid on the hours above your threshold at the overtime multiplier. Enter your hourly rate, the total hours you worked, the regular (non-overtime) hours, the threshold, and the multiplier; the calculator shows regular pay, overtime pay, and gross pay. Commissions and allowances are folded into the regular rate first, so the overtime line uses the fuller rate.

When double time kicks in
Double time means 2 times your normal rate. It shows up in a few places: California pays 2x for hours over 12 in a day and for the seventh consecutive day of work; some union contracts pay 2x for Sundays or holidays; and a few employers grant 2x as a premium for especially undesirable shifts.
Worked example. At $22/h, 45 hours with a 40-hour threshold: 40 × $22 = $880 regular, 5 × $22 × 2 = $220 double time, gross $1,100. Compare that with the 1.5x view to see the premium you earn from the higher multiplier alone.
As with every overtime type, include commissions and bonuses if they are part of your pay. The 2x is applied to the regular rate that includes them, which is usually higher than your base hourly wage.
Stacking order matters. In California the day is split: 1.5x from hour 9 and 2x only from hour 13. A 14-hour day is not all double time — only the last two hours are. Enter the daily hours and let the California mode split it correctly.
The seventh-day rule in practice. The seventh consecutive day is counted from the start of your workweek, not from a calendar week. Once you cross seven worked days in a row, that day's first eight hours are 1.5x and anything beyond is 2x. A single day off resets the count, so scheduling rest days changes how much double time you earn.
