How overtime is calculated
Overtime pay = overtime hours × hourly rate × multiplier (usually 1.5, sometimes 2). In the US, the federal FLSA sets the threshold at 40 hours per week; California also uses a daily threshold of 8 hours. Shift differentials add a flat dollar amount per hour for night, weekend, or holiday work.
